About Therapy

2497620875“Why do I need therapy? I’m not crazy!”

You’re probably right. What most people think of as ‘crazy’ isn’t crazy at all. Like virtually everyone else, it’s much more likely that you have absorbed some dysfunctional thoughts, feelings, or habits that worked once but stopped working when your circumstances changed.

The point of therapy is to help you get what you want – and be what you want – in a healthy, efficient, and productive way. It’s about becoming better, not about becoming sane.

Think of therapy as a workout – anybody can go into a gym and start exercising, but hiring an expert is usually a good idea to achieve the results you want in the best way possible.

That’s where a therapist comes in.

“So, how does it work?”

Achieving optimal mental health – like optimal physical health – is about mastering the skills and knowledge needed to do the job.

Therapy is a two-part process: getting rid of the bad and replacing it with the good. That’s why I don’t waste time with fads, pop psychology, or clever gimmicks promoted by trendy gurus.

Here, it’s all about what works and helping you achieve your real goals, whatever they may be.

About Dave Coalter, MS, LPC

AdminLife experiences and training make a better therapist.

For over 30 years, I’ve been counseling people, first as a minister and then as a fully trained and licensed professional counselor.

Trust me, you are not alone in facing life’s many challenges. I am an abuse survivor, a father and grandfather, a businessman and entrepreneur, as well as a speaker and lecturer. I’ve been both homeless and an addict, and I’ve dealt with human suffering (both personally and professionally) in a thousand different ways.

About half my time currently is spent providing mental health care for victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuse, and the other half working with those who want to go beyond simple survival to achieve real success, whether in business or other aspects of life.

I’ve seen it all, and there’s one thing I’ve learned through my experiences: You CAN overcome, and you WILL if you make the right changes.
